Everyone involved in the trucking industry knows that drivers are the backbone of America. Sadly though, many times truck drivers aren’t given the respect and appreciation that they deserve. We’ve all heard the expression, “If you bought it, a trucker brought it” time and time again, but it’s true and it never gets old.
You’ve improved our quality of life, so we’d like to do the same for you by providing you with some healthy tips and videos on living well while driving over the road in honor of Truck Driver Appreciation Week 2013.
Healthy Eating on the Road
Eating well on the road is perhaps one of the biggest struggles of the OTR lifestyle. With such long hours, many are under the impression that it’s just not possible to maintain a healthy diet while mobile. However, this is just not true! You have to put a little bit more thought and effort into your meals when you’re a truck driver, but without a doubt, it can be done. Check out the Healthy Trucker Kitchen for meal tips and tasty recipes for truck drivers.
Truck Driver Workouts
What if I told you it was possible to still get exercise on the road, even when you spend 11 hours a day behind the wheel of an 80,000 pound vehicle? Similar to eating habits, finding time to workout on the road can be difficult. But if it’s important to you, it’s easy to find the time! Sure, you don’t have access to a gym, but that just means you get to be creative with your workouts. One of the best ways to make time for exercise is to allot your mandatory 30 minute HOS break towards some form of exercise. Whether that is walking around a truck stop, doing some dumbbell lifting, or something else, anything is better than nothing! Need some ideas for getting a workout in on the road? Check out our exercise tips and videos here.
Financial Freedom on the Road
It can be easy to lose track of your finances on the road. When you’re not home to see everything that your money is going towards, it’s much easier to spend all willy nilly. We’ve partnered with financial expert Pete the Planner to provide you with money saving advice and financial planning tips.
And finally…every trucker knows the biggest struggle on the road is maintaining a healthy home life. It gets tough out on the road, sometimes. You miss your family and wish they were closer. Check out our recreation and home life section for suggestions on maintaining healthy relationships when on the road.
