You might have seen us giving a shout out to the Truckin’ Runners group here on our site a time or two. The Truckin’ Runners group is exactly what it sounds like — a group full of drivers and trucking industry professionals who are passionate about running (and exercise/healthy living in general). Well, this group has recently launched its first ever Virtual 5K to benefit the St. Christopher Fund for Truck Drivers.
More on St. Christopher Fund
If you’re connected to the trucking industry, at some point you’ve probably heard of the St. Christopher’s Fund. But just in case you haven’t lets jog your memory a bit. The St. Christopher Fund is a charity for truck drivers with medical problems which have led to some financial hardship. Through donations, the fund helps drivers with medical bills, prescription drugs, and living expenses while recovering from illness or when out of work.
1st Virtual 5KSo, what’s a Virtual 5K? It’s best described right here by Truckin’ Runners member Jon Narron:
“The weekend of October 25th-26th we will host our first annual 5k, and get this, it doesn’t matter where you are that day you can participate. That’s right, you can run and record your race on your smartphone app/GPS watch/local track and see where you stack up against fellow participants. Just run and record your time on race weekend and submit it to the race director and see where you stack up. Think you have to be an Olympic athlete to compete? Nope! There will be walkers and runners divisions, as well as gender and age divisions and the coveted overall winner within the walker and runner divisions. This race will be to benefit St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund. All proceeds received will go to this foundation that serves to help drivers in need. There will be t-shirts and finishers medals for all participants. You must register by October 1 to receive these though.”
This is a great way for fitness aficionados and truckers to put their skills to good use and raise money for a great cause. Interested?
