Hi, I’m Donna Kennedy, Executive Director of the St. Christopher Fund. You might remember me from the Mile Markers podcast with Mike and Derek a few months ago. In that episode we talked about driver health, our scholarship program, the impact of the St. Christopher Fund (SCF) and the mission of the Fund. Well, I’m here today to share some more great news that will benefit the trucking industry as we continue to improve truck driver health.
Recently, American Defense Lawyers (ADL) started a donation matching program for the SCF via Women In Trucking (WIT). ADL will make a $25 donation match (up to $5,000) to the St. Christopher Fund for every new Women in Trucking membership from March 23, 2013-March 14, 2014. Antoinette Martinez, President of ADL, shared the exciting news about their donation to the SCF just before the Mid-America Truck Show. Martinez’s California-based company works to fairly represent truck drivers on a number of legal issues. ADL is hoping that their matching contributions will be beneficial to all 3 companies: WIT members will get satisfaction from knowing they have helped other drivers, the SCF will receive a donation, and ADL will become recognized as a supporter of both companies and of truckers in general.
I was thrilled to hear about ADL’s plan to donate. With just 200 new members, the SCF could earn a $5,000 donation: that will go a long way in helping our beneficiaries. So if you’re looking for a great organization to be a member of, please think of WIT. And know that membership is not limited to women, as 16% of WIT’s members are men who support the mission.
